If you want to spend the rest of your life with a man, you should make certain vows to him. Aside from promising to stay with him for better, for worse, for richer, and for poorer, you should also make a few modern promises. It doesn’t matter if you’re writing your vows for your wedding day or just trying to find something sweet to write in your anniversary card, because you should make these promises to your mate if you plan on spending the rest of your lives together.

  1. I vow to keep things exciting. After you’ve been together for a few years, or even months, things can start to feel stale. That’s why you need to put in effort to make your dates and sex life exciting. The more creative you are, the better.
  2. I vow to make us a priority. Yes, your job is important. So are your children. And your pets. However, no matter how many responsibilities you have in life, you can never forget to make your relationship a priority. Never put your boyfriend on the backburner.
  3. I vow to remind you I love you. You’re not going to greet your man with kisses every single time he walks through the door. However, you should make a point to remind him of how much you love him. It doesn’t matter if you buy him occasional gifts, shower him with compliments, or just give him a blow job after a long day.
  4. I vow to take care of myself. There’s nothing wrong with gaining a few pounds after you get hitched. However, you should continue to eat healthy and exercise in order to make your life last as long as possible. After all, you owe it to your partner to take care of yourself.
  5. I vow to treat you with respect. When you’re out with friends, you shouldn’t make fun of your man in front of them. When you get into a fight, you shouldn’t use the worst curse words you can think of to describe him. Even when you’re upset, you should treat him with respect, because you know he deserves it.
  6. I vow to let you be yourself. You shouldn’t try to change your partner. You shouldn’t let your partner change you, either. If he loves to play video games in his pajamas, then you shouldn’t nag him about getting changed, because you should be happy to let him be himself.
  7. I vow to work as a team. You two aren’t going to stay together for long, unless you learn to work as a team. You should pick out an apartment together, pick out a pet together, and pick out your toilet seat covers together. Don’t make a decision that concerns him without asking for his opinion.
  8. I vow to keep our relationship healthy. You can’t promise your boyfriend you’ll never lie to him, because it’s bound to happen, even if it’s over Christmas gifts. That’s why you should make him a general promise about keeping your relationship healthy by appreciating him, compromising with him, and treating him like an equal.
  9. I vow to fight for us. Even the happiest relationships will have bumps along the road. If you truly love your partner, then you should promise them that you’ll fight for them. You should do whatever it takes to keep your relationship running smoothly, because you know that he’s worth the trouble.
  10. I vow to always be your best friend. Your boyfriend should double as your best friend. He shouldn’t just be someone that you have sex with. He should also be someone that you can laugh with and share secrets with. He should be your favorite person in the world.
