Mom ‘Kidnaps’ Baby To Teach ‘Lazy’ Husband A Lesson

When you have a baby while in a committed relationship, it’s only natural to believe that raising the child will be a joint effort between both parents. However, that often doesn’t end up being the case. In many instances, the mother is forced to shoulder most of the responsibility and care for the new addition while the father’s life continues as it always did. That’s why one woman decided to take things into her own hand and teach her “lazy” husband a lesson.

  1. The 29-year-old new mother took to Reddit’s AITA sub to share her story. She revealed that she and her husband, 35, welcomed a baby girl but that after a short maternity leave, she had to return to work. She didn’t want to leave her baby while she was at work, but if the little one wasn’t safe with her father, where would she be?
  2. The husband hasn’t worked for several years. As the woman explained, her partner has been unemployed since 2021. However, he doesn’t use his time at home very wisely. “He receives benefits. It’s also important to know that he’s extremely lazy. He doesn’t cook, clean, or help out in any way. I was nervous about leaving her home with her father, but I had no choice,” she wrote.
  3. At first, things seemed to be going pretty well. The mom said that for a while, the baby seemed happy enough to be spending the day at home with her dad. “When I came back from work, she was clean and sleeping. The next few times I came home, he was either playing with her, feeding her, or out for a walk with her. I was happy,” she shared. However, she soon realized things weren’t all that great.
  4. A neighbor approached the mother about what was happening while she was at work. The mother went on to reveal that she was approached by a neighbor the other day and told that the baby cries for hours the minute the mom leaves for work. “When I came back from work, she was clean and sleeping. The next few times I came home, he was either playing with her, feeding her, or out for a walk with her. I was happy,” she wrote.
  5. She decided to find out if her hunch was right. The mom was sure that her husband was slacking on childcare duties, so she took the day off of work without telling her husband. She left as if she was going to work and then came back 30 minutes later. “Sure enough, he was knocked out, sleeping with his stupid noise-canceling headphones on. I went to my daughter’s room, scooped her up, and took her to my friend’s house,” she recalled.
  6. She then took the plan one step further. Two hours after arriving at a friend’s house, she called her husband to say she was coming home early. However, he began freaking out because he couldn’t find their daughter, and he nearly called police. It wasn’t until the mom explained that she’d taken the baby while he was asleep because he couldn’t be bothered to look after her.
  7. The husband called his mother to comfort him. When the wife arrived home, her husband’s mother was there “calming his nerves” and both her husband and mother-in-law told her off. In fact, her husband decided to move out and live with his mother, while his side of the family continues to berate her for being a “terrible” person.
  8. The wife knows what she did was “extreme.” However, she doesn’t regret doing it. The baby was in danger while her father purposely ignored her for hours on end. By putting on noise-canceling headphones and going to sleep, he was showing how little he cared for his daughter. Things could have gone very badly wrong had the wife not intervened when she did. And while she claimed that her husband is “waiting for an apology” for what she did, she’s “done with him.” Rightfully so!
  9. Pretty much everyone in the comments was on the mother’s side. As one person pointed out, the couple could lose their child if the neighbor decided to call CPS. The only way to protect their daughter and keep her in custody is for the mother to leave the irresponsible and lazy father. “So you managed to get inside the house and grab your child and he never noticed you? What if something happened to your kid while he had his noise-canceling headphones?!” another commenter pointed out. What a mess all the way around!
