Moms Have Started Announcing Their New Arrivals With Hilariously Graphic Birthing Cakes

While announcing the arrival of a new baby via baked goods used to be done with tasteful decorations like flowers and frilly letters, these days things are getting a bit more graphic (and hilarious!) with birthing cakes that depict the child’s entrance into the world. Needless to say, they’re a bit controversial!

  1. Birthing cakes are basically exactly what they sound like. They’re cakes that generally have some kind of cut in them to signify the mom’s lady bits and tend to use something like a doll head that’s “crowning” from the cake along with something red like berries or food coloring to represent blood. It really is something to behold.
  2. Did the translation really need to be so literal? Yes, sure, giving birth is a miracle and life is precious, but I don’t really need to conjure up the images of a woman squeezing a newborn out of a hole the size of a quarter (yes, I know the cervix expands, chill) while trying to enjoy a sugary treat. It’s just not appropriate.
  3. Some of these things have way too much detail. Why are you adding hair?! Why are you trying to make the “blood” look as realistic as possible?! I just don’t understand and frankly, I don’t think I want to.
  4. Then again, some birthing cakes are really hilarious. There’s no elegant or “pretty” way to make a birthing cake, and some people really aren’t all that talented in the baking department anyway so the results are dodgy at best. In those cases, you really do have to laugh (to keep from crying, of course).
