Movie theaters in the UK are offering ginger-haired people free admission to movie theaters so they can hide from the sun in the midst of a country-wide heat wave. England has been issued with an extremely rare red heat wave on Monday and Tuesday, June 18 and 19, leading to businesses stepping in to help.
- Those with red hair and fair skin are in greater danger. Their skin burns much more easily and their body temperature can rise more quickly, which is extremely unpleasant, to say the least. “I’m a redhead who is part pasty white and part freckly,” one person said, as per LADBible. “Fifteen minutes in the summer sun sees me ‘glowing’ an unhealthy shade of red, the sun having commenced its roasting process.”
- Showcase Cinemas wants to offer redheads safe haven. They’re giving away free tickets to their movie theaters so gingers can keep nice and cool away from the sun. “While the UK enjoys some much-needed sunny weather, we know how hard some people find the heat,” says UK general manager Mark Barlow. “That’s why to tackle the heatwave, we’re offering red heads free entry to our cinema screens this Monday and Tuesday, so they’ll be able to enjoy some of the amazing films on offer in the comfort of our air-conditioned cinema screens and ensure they stay protected from the sun.”
- There are some conditions attached. The offer is only available at Showcase cinema locations on Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19. There’s a limit of one free ticket per redhead. Also, if you’d previously bought a ticket for a show that day, you won’t get a refund. You also can’t use it on special features/premium seats.
- How many people are going to dye their hair red for free movie tickets? It might seem like a pretty great length to go to for a free movie ticket, but we are having a cost of living crisis, so who knows?
