Living in New York City means giving up a certain level of privacy as you’re crowded into a busy metropolis where everyone is on top of each other pretty much 24/7. However, you would imagine that you would at least have a bit of peace and quiet, not to mention safety and solitude, in your own apartment. Renter Samantha Hartsoe found that sense of seclusion blown to shreds, however, when she discovered a hidden room behind her bathroom mirror.

- It all started because of a random breeze. In the first of four TikTok videos documenting the saga, Samantha reveals that she was confused when feeling a random breeze in her bathroom when there were no sources for air to get in. However, she eventually realized the air was coming from behind her bathroom mirror and that the mirror moved, and that’s where things got freaky.
- She got a shock when she took the mirror off the wall. I’m pretty sure bathroom mirrors aren’t supposed to be able to be lifted right off. I’m also definitely sure that behind said mirror there shouldn’t be a hole that goes straight through into a blank hallway with a whole other room behind it, but that’s what Samantha found. By the end of Part 2, Samantha decides she just has to go in. She’s far braver than I would be, that’s for sure!
- She actually climbs through the hole into the hidden room. After strapping a flashlight to her head, donning a dust mask, and asking her roommates to stand by to make sure she doesn’t get murdered by some kind of demon spirit or something, Samantha decides to climb through the small hole and see what’s going on over there. Because there was a bit of a delay between her posts, commenters invested in the story began to worry something happened to her.
- It wasn’t just a hidden room, it was a whole other apartment! After climbing through, Samantha has a long walk around and discovers a whole other unfinished, unkempt, empty apartment. It’s clear people have been in and out and the door to the place is unlocked, which she promptly remedied, but it’s also unclear how this place could have been there all along without anyone knowing.
- Needless to say, Samantha plans to have a word with her landlord. How could this be allowed to happen? I’m thoroughly creeped out!
