80-Year-Old Man Builds ‘Dog Train’ To Take Rescued Strays On Fun Rides

When you think of what you’ll be doing at 80 years old, rescuing stray dogs and running a fun dog train for them probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. However, that’s exactly what Fort Worth, Texas resident Eugene Bostick is doing, along with help from his brother Corky.

  1. Bostick lives on a dead-end street. That may not seem all that remarkable, but this particular street seems to be a popular place for terrible people to abandon their pets. Bostick couldn’t handle seeing these animals in distress, so he started to take them in, creating his own little shelter at his home. “We started feeding these abandoned animals, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for dog rescues to live,” he told The Dodo.
  2. It wasn’t long before the dog train was born. Bostick was inspired after seeing a local pulling rocks on a tractor with a little trailer behind it and he thought it might be a cool idea to take the dogs for a ride too. “I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train.’ I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together,” he recalled. “Whenever these adorable dogs hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited.”
  3. At first, he was just using his tractor. Bostick only had four or five dogs to take along for rides in the beginning, but as his brood grew, so did his need for more room. Since he had experience in welding, he cut some holes in some plastic barrels, attached some wheels to them, and then strung them all together for a proper dog train.
  4. The dogs love it! Bostick runs the dog train twice a week, taking the pups out on rides through the town and through the forest. They’re in seventh heaven! “Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited,” he said. I can only imagine!
