A TikTok user has warned summer enthusiasts to be careful to avoid dreaded “margarita burns” in the warm weather. Shana, who uses the handle @thegluenfreetravelagent, blamed the extremely painful burns she experienced on the acidic juice from limes.

- Her clip of warning has been viewed more than 400,000 times. In the five-second video, she cautions people: “PSA, don’t cut limes then go into the sun. I now have second and third-degree burns and blisters on my hands.”
- Shana got some pretty serious injuries. You can see from her video just how serious margarita burns really are, as her hands had to be heavily bandaged. She even posted a follow-up clip later showing her red and peeling hands. She also showed off a few “burn” marks on her stomach which she claim are from the splattering of the lime juice.
- She’s learned her lesson! In the follow-up clip, Shana claims she’s “never making mojitos at the beach again.” She added: “I rinsed my hands, I washed them with soap and water, but unfortunately with this it can still happen.”
- The condition is real – it’s called phytophotodermatitis. It’s strangely common and there are varying degrees of severity, ranging from painless discoloration to painful blisters, Clarissa Yang, MD, told The Post.
