Paris Has A Floating Movie Theater Where Guests Sit In Socially Distanced Boats

There’s no use denying that the latest coronavirus has changed the way we live and especially the way we socialize, and those changes are likely going to be in place for a long time to come. However, life does go on and we want to get back to some sense of normalcy, which is why Paris is opening a floating movie theater where guests are seated in separate, socially distanced boats.

  1. How romantic is this? Imagine floating on calm waters as you take in a beautiful French film in your own boat with your boyfriend/girlfriend/Tinder date? That’s exactly what you’ll get to do at Cinéma sur l’Eau, or “cinema on the water” in the City of Love.
  2. This special event (kinda) happens every year. Every year in July, Paris throws an event known as Paris Plages in which temporary beaches are installed and opened for residents along the Seine and the Bassin de la Villette. The floating movie theater happening this year is the brainchild of movie theater chain Mk2 and in collaboration with Haagen-Dazs.
  3. It’s for one night only, sadly. While I wish I could say that this unique and inspiring set-up was going to be an ongoing thing, that’s not the case. Your only chance to visit the floating movie theater in Paris will be on July 18. I suppose the extremely limited engagement only makes it more special!
  4. The movie showing is called Le Grand Bain. Instead of being a romance movie or a drama, it’s a comedy about a group of guys who decide to form a synchronized swimming team and the hilarious escapades they get up to because of it.
  5. Up to 15o people will get to watch from their boats. Each of the 38 boats will hold up to six guests from the same friend group or family, with a total of up to 150 people being able to take part in the floating movie theater. Insider reports that up to 150 more Parisians will get to watch from deck chairs along the water’s edge.
  6. So how do you get tickets? Parisians can enter a raffle for free tickets until July 15 HERE. Good luck!
