Passenger Gives Man Foot Massage On Plane, Leaving Everyone ‘Gagging’

I like to think of myself as a considerate traveler. I book an end seat where possible so that I don’t have to climb over everyone to go to the bathroom/get up and walk around, I never recline my seat unless it’s a long haul flight (and even then I check that the person behind me is cool), and I don’t do any weird, personal things that are fine for the house but totally inappropriate on a packed plane. However, one couple recently decided to throw decorum to the wind and the woman gave the man a full-blown foot massage during the flight.

  1. Who does this?! Sure, some people take their shoes off during a long flight, but a) they should have socks on when they do this and b) they should keep their feet on the floor in their own seat space unless they’re in business class and therefore have space to put their legs out that’s allotted only for them. The fact that this guy but his bare nasty feet out into the aisle and up onto the armrest of the seat in front of him, regardless of the fact that the seat belonged to someone he knew, is nasty.
  2. Reminder: a plane is not your house. When you’re in a plane in which other people are also traveling – and unless you’re rich and have a private jet, this will always be the case – then you should act as though you are in public. Would you pull your shoes off and get a foot massage in the middle of a grocery store? I would hope not!
  3. Everyone on the plane had to be grossed out. It’s unclear whether anyone actually said anything to these people for being so disgusting, but one would hope that a flight attendant might have come through and told him to put those nasty paws away and stop being so inconsiderate. However, I imagine that even if no one said anything, everyone had to be gagging.
  4. Bottom line? Please don’t do this. Just don’t. Keep your shoes on if at all possible and don’t be so damn inconsiderate. Foot massages on a plane? Give me a break!
