Petty Father Makes Final Child Support Payment With 80,000 Pennies Dumped On Family Driveway

A Virginia man, who just may be the pettiest father ever, made his final child support payment to his daughter by dumping 80,000 pennies on the driveway of the family’s home. Teenager Avery Sandford revealed that just after she turned 18, her dad drove over to her mom’s house in his truck pulling a trailer full of coins and emptied it onto the property before driving away.

  1. Avery was in the middle of class when her dad turned up. As she recalled to WTVR, she was taking classes online at the house when her dad turned up. “I just turned 18. When I was in the middle of class, my dad came by. He had rented a trailer,” she said. “He pulled up in front of the house and turned the trailer on so it dumped out all the pennies on the grass, and my mom came out and was like, ‘What are you dumping in my yard?’ She didn’t know who it was until he shouted, ‘It’s your final child support payment.'” Really classy, dude!
  2. She was understandably upset by what happened. Regardless of the relationship between Avery’s parents, that’s her dad and to see him acting so hatefully was really upsetting. “It’s not my mom he’s trying to embarrass, it’s also me and my sister and it’s upsetting that he didn’t consider that before he did that,” she admitted.
  3. There is an upside to this story. Instead of allowing this petty, vindictive action to get the better of them, Avery and her mom decided to do something good with the money: they’re donating every last penny to a local domestic abuse center called Safe Harbor.
  4. Now, their good deed is inspiring others. After Avery and her mom dropped off the $850, news got around and other people started donating too, eventually getting over $5,000 more for the organization.
  5. The charity is overwhelmed. As a spokesperson for Safe Harbor told Huffington Post: “It’s just incredible. A friend of theirs matched the exact amount and then other people started making donations in their honor. In the memo line, they’re saying they’re doing this in honor of Avery and her mom.” They added: “I think about Avery and her mother taking this really terrible and demeaning experience and turning it into something positive. To me, it’s just a beautiful thing that they have done together as a mother and daughter.”
