San Francisco is currently under a “Shelter-In-Place” ordinance in order to prevent the spread of illness, but people still have needs. For instance, Ian Chan recently realized that he was out of toilet paper and since Amazon didn’t have any in stock either, he had to call on his friend David Chen on the other side of the city to send him some via drone.
When you need that t.p. but Amazon is out, and you’re not supposed to leave your house; tech San Francisco doesn’t fail. Thank you @chenosaurus for the speedy cross city delivery- I owe you one 🧻 pic.twitter.com/Y4OZzoyCWH

- Chen is an “aspiring drone racing pilot.” In other words, he knows what he’s doing. Of course, delivering toilet paper to someone across the city isn’t likely a journey he’s tried before, but he was sure he could complete it successfully, and that’s exactly what he did.
- That drone came a long way to deliver just one roll. Chen attached a single roll of TP to his drone and sent it sky-bound, and thankfully, Chan was on the other side of San Fran waiting and watching and filming it all to share on social media. He captured its arrival from multiple different angles, and thank goodness—it’s fascinating!
- This was all in a bit of fun. It’s unlikely that Chan was literally out of toilet paper and so desperate for a roll that he needed Chen’s help. Rather, it’s a little bit of lightheartedness to make people smile, which is something we all desperately need right now. Nothing wrong with that!
- Yes, we all know this illness needs to be taken seriously. Concerned that people thought he was taking the current situation as a joke, Chan later posted a follow-up tweet letting people know that’s not the case. “There’s lots of people out there (here in US and other countries) in not good spots,” he wrote. “I’m taking it very seriously. But hopefully this dumb tweet added some brief humor / happiness into your timeline/day. Stay safe & healthy everyone.”
- Would your friends send you toilet paper via drone? If they wouldn’t, you might need new friends, LOL.
Ok, addendum. Now with both angles. For science. cc @bloomey @cg @BWJones pic.twitter.com/eP6kDyEyKB
