Police Find Cocaine Hidden Inside Hundreds Of Individual Coffee Beans

Italian police were shocked to discover nearly 130 grams of cocaine hidden inside 500 individual coffee beans. The illegal narcotics were part of a 2kg package intercepted by the Guardia di Finanza financial police after arriving at Milan’s Malpensa Airport from Colombia. What raised the red flag? The package was addressed to a fictional villain.

  1. The package contained three packages of “coffee.” Colombia is known for its coffee beans, yes, but they’re also known for their cocaine. When police decided to take a closer look at the beans, however, they soon discovered something extremely sneaky. It wasn’t coffee at all, it was a whole lot of illegal drugs.
  2. All the beans had been hollowed out and filled with cocaine. That’s right, all 500 beans had been painstakingly hollowed out by hand and stuffed with the narcotics. In total, the drugs weighed about 130 grams, an amount which has a pretty hefty street resale price.
  3. Police were able to track the package to a man in Florence. The 50-year-old unemployed chef was found after he attempted to collect the package at a local tobacco shop. The unnamed Italian man, who was officially registered as living in Medellin, in Colombia, had previous drug offenses and was well known to police at the time of his arrest. According to CTV News, police also arrested a second suspect for attempting to import drugs.
  4. This was a pretty small catch for Guardia di Finanza. Earlier this month, CNN reports that they successfully confiscated 15.4 tons of amphetamines, allegedly produced by ISIS in Syria, after tracking the shipment to a port in Salerno. In the shipment, they found 84 million pills valued at $1.12 billion. It was said to be the largest haul on earth not only in terms of volume but in terms of street value. Not that that’s anything to brag about, I suppose…
