It’s not unusual for police to make drug busts. After all, that’s one of their jobs, to get illegal drugs off the streets and out of the hands of criminals. However, the Lewisville Police Department in Texas recently got one of the biggest busts in the force’s history when Stryker the police dog sniffed out a whopping $1.2 million from a tractor-trailer.
- Stryker is the partner of Officer Pat Robey. Together, the two worked to find and confiscate the massive drug haul, bringing in 270 kilograms (about 595 pounds) of methamphetamine during a call-out on February 23 to help another department. It was Stryker’s biggest bust to date!
- This was all down to an anonymous tip. As the Lewisville PD explained in a post on their Facebook page, “At approximately 3 p.m. on February 23, 2020 Lewisville Police Department K-9 Officer Pat Robey received a call to assist another agency with an anonymous tip about a suspicious tractor trailer located near a major highway. Officer Robey deployed his K-9 partner Stryker to conduct a free air sniff of the tractor trailer and K-9 Stryker alerted to the presence of narcotics.” Soon after, the meth was found by the police dog in a hidden compartment.
- It’s unclear whether or not police have located a suspect. It’s unlikely that someone would just abandon $1.2 million worth of meth, and the tractor-trailer has to have been registered to someone, so they must be able to trace it to someone (or someone who knows something about it). Something tells me an arrest or several may be in the near future.
- Police dogs deserve so much love and respect. Stryker did an amazing job helping Officer Robey, and thankfully the department confirmed in the comments section of the Facebook post that the dog had been rewarded for his meth-sniffing skills with “quite a few extra treats, a lot of scratches and as much time as he wanted with his favorite toy.” Good boy, Stryker!
