A conflicted mom-to-be took to social media this week to ask people’s opinions on a very intense predicament. Basically, her husband wants her to name their unborn daughter after his deceased ex-wife and she vehementl and understandably refused since it’s pretty creepy and would serve as a regular reminder of a woman no longer in his life (and to whom he’s no longer married). However, she wondered if her extreme reaction was unfounded since her husband and his family took it so badly.
- They were still thinking about names. The woman said that she and her husband were supposed to come up with some name ideas together but he suddenly sprung it on her that he already had an idea in mind: his deceased ex-wife’s name. She was horrified by the suggestion and turned it down immediately, but for some reason, the husband and his parents just don’t understand it.
- It’s not as if the woman expects him to forget his wife. She went on to say that she fully supports her husband honoring the memory of his wife, which he does in various ways. However, she thinks naming their baby after her is “one step too far.” She wrote: “I know that it’s sad that she passed away but I think I am being reasonable enough by having their wedding pics still about as well as him wearing their wedding rings around his neck. I think naming our child after her is a step too far. Am I wrong?”
- Pretty much everyone is on her side. After the woman’s predicament was shared on the KidSpot Facebook page, the comments immediately began to flood in, supporting the woman and validating her decision. Some dubbed the husband “selfish” while others suggested that he may need grief counseling so that he could fully move on from his deceased wife. “Oh no, that’s weird. The baby deserves her own identity. Simple as that. I think your husband needs some grief counselling. I don’t think he is seeing this clearly,” one person wrote. Another added: “That’s creepy & wrong on so many levels! He has enough memories of her in his heart, in photos & by wearing their wedding rings around his neck!”
- No word on how this was eventually worked out. It seems as if the woman rightfully was holding her position and wasn’t prepared to budge. It’s unclear whether or not her husband eventually realized the inappropriateness of what he was asking and came around to seeing his wife’s side, but this is definitely a sticky situation!
