This 1,000-Piece Puzzle Changes Colors As You Put It Together For An Extra Challenge MoMA Design Store

Jigsaw puzzles are having a moment right now, and so they should. Trying to fit together a bunch of jagged pieces to form a picture is one of the oldest yet most satisfying pastimes ever AND it flexes the ol’ noggin in the process. If you’re looking for an extra challenge, why don’t you try putting together this 1,000-piece color-changing puzzle next time?

  1. The MoMA Design Store is selling the puzzle. The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is one of the world’s biggest and best art museums in the world. They also happen to sell some super interesting and awesome items in their Design Store. This color-changing puzzle is just one of them!
  2. Paris-based artist Clemens Habicht created the puzzle. The idea of a color-changing puzzle doesn’t sound all that crazy, but it is pretty magical to see in action. After being inspired by a blue sky, he decided to try his hand at creating a really difficult puzzle and he certainly succeeded.
  3. Putting this puzzle together is all about intuition. Habicht believes that it would be more satisfying and even therapeutic to put puzzle pieces together based on color intuition rather than trying to match up pictures. In a way, he’s not wrong.
  4. The pieces change color when you pick them up and the light hits them. A color-changing puzzle might not seem like it would be all that challenging, but when you realize that the pieces change depending on how and where the light hits them and you picking them up, you start to realize quickly how hard completing the puzzle might be.
  5. Be prepared to sink some serious time into this. In fact, Instagrammer mintyfizz_puzzles took 45 minutes just to put the border together, and she’s basically a professional. That should give you an idea of just how challenging it is.
  6. You can buy your own puzzle at the MoMA Design Store. It’s available for $100 HERE.
