Reporter Hit By Car During Live News Broadcast Comes Back To Finish Segment WSAZ

A television news reporter was hit by a car during a live broadcast but still managed to get up and finish her segment. Tori Yergey, a reporter for NBC affiliate WSAZ in West Virginia was at the scene of a water main break in Dunbar when a car hit her from behind, pushing her and her camera violently to the ground. However, she soon came back into the shot and assured everyone she was okay.

  1. She could have been seriously hurt. While the collision looked quite serious, Yergey seemed okay as she assured in-studio anchor Tim Irr that she wasn’t severely injured. “Oh my God. I just got hit by a car, but I’m okay!” she said.
  2. The driver of the car was mortified. However, she asked if Yorgey was okay by calling out through the driver’s side window of her car before stopping off-camera. Yorgey said she was and then joked, “That’s live TV for ya!”
  3. Irr wanted to clarify what exactly happened to her. Because it all happened so quickly, it was unclear exactly what happened when Yorgey was hit. “So were you bumped down low Tori or were you hit up high? I couldn’t really tell from looking at you,” he asked. She replied: “I don’t even know, Tim. My whole life just flashed before my eyes, but this is live TV and everything’s OK. I thought I was in a safe spot but clearly we might need to move the camera over a bit.”
  4. This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened to her. Yorgey shared that she was hit in the same way back when she was in college. She was okay then as well, meaning she’s had some pretty lucky scrapes!

Yorgey was later assessed at a local hospital and was given a clean bill of health.
