This Rescued Pit Bull Got Her Own Maternity Photoshoot And The Photos Are Adorable

While pit bulls often get a bad reputation for being aggressive of dangerous, anyone with a knowledge of or experience with the breed can tell you just how wrong that is. In reality, they’re big old softies that are great with people and other animals. Pickles the pit bull was recently found wandering the streets, lost and very pregnant, and was brought into Pits and Giggles Rescue, which is where her story so much better.

Scroll down to see more of these amazing photos and find out more about Pickles and her new babies.

  1. Pits and Giggles works to help pregnant dogs. A lot of shelters wouldn’t know what to do with a heavily pregnant dog, but Pits and Giggles is made for it. They make it their mission to give pups the medical care they desperately need as well as a safe and comfortable place to give birth. After that, they spay the mama and find the mama and her puppies loving homes.
  2. One of their volunteers is Lauren Casteen Sykes, who also happens to be a talented photographer. Sykes helps foster dogs from the rescue and even got her own pet from there. She also happens to run Enchanted Hills Photography and is an incredibly talented photographer who uses her skills to take photos of the dogs that help them get adopted. Talk about using your powers for good!
  3. When Pickles was brought to Pits and Giggles, Sykes was immediately inspired. She knew that Pickles needed her own maternity shoot, and that’s exactly what she got. While she was a bit too excitable to be a model, Sykes used her quick shutter skills to capture some seriously beautiful shots of the glowing mama-to-be. “She was so excited she could hardly sit still,” Sykes told The Dodo. “She loves affection and treats and was happy to participate! The hardest part was getting her to stay because she loves people SO much!”
  4. Just a few days later, Pickles had her babies! She gave birth to eight baby girls and Sykes again got Pickles and her baby pickles back in front of the camera for a few more photos. They’re currently being cared for by the rescue but in a few months, they’ll (hopefully) be happily heading off to new homes.
  5. Thankfully, Pickles will never have to breed again. Sykes told The Dodo that it was clear Pickles had been used repeatedly for breeding and that Pits and Giggles was thrilled to know that after spaying her, she’ll never be forced to endure that again. “We’re excited to make sure this is her very last litter,” she said.
