Same-Sex Influencer Couple Announces A ‘Donor Sperm Giveaway’

A same-sex influencer couple is offering their followers a chance to win donor sperm in a new and rather unconventional giveaway. Allie Conway and Sam Kwiatkowski from Nova Scotia in Canada launched the contest, done in collaboration with Fairfax Cryobank, on their Instagram account on August 15 to help one lucky person “(hopefully) help one of you grow your family.”

  1. Fairfax Cryobank will provide the donor sperm to the winner. The company offers “a large and diverse selection of high-quality sperm donors” and is using Allie and Sam’s platform of more than 202,000 followers to get the word out as well as help someone who might want to use their services to get pregnant.
  2. The donor sperm giveaway works pretty much like most competitions. Like other Instagram giveaways, in order to enter, you have to like the post on Allie and Sam’s wall, follow the women and Fairfax Cryobank on the social media platform, and tag a few friends in the comments. You can tag as many friends as you’d like in separate comments for more entries, but it seems the winner will be drawn randomly.
  3. You only win one vial of donor sperm. If you’ve never gone down the road of IVF, IUI, or other methods that require donor sperm, you may not know that it can be incredibly expensive (between $650 and $1,050 per vial at Fairfax) – and that it usually takes more than a single vial to be successful. Of course, most things that seem too good to be true usually are and this giveaway only awards the winner with a single vial of the stuff, which doesn’t seem all that helpful unless you’re incredibly fertile/lucky and get knocked up immediately. Oh, and you get free shipping, so that’s something, I guess?
  4. Allie and Sam don’t have any kids of their own. They do have dogs, and certainly not being parents doesn’t preclude them from doing a donor sperm giveaway for others to start their own families, but it does seem a little weird, admittedly. But it also seems like it could be a great resource for someone who does want to become a parent, so good for them.
