The Satanic Temple has announced the opening of a telehealth abortion clinic named after Samuel Alito, a Catholic justice for the U.S. Supreme Court who voted to overturn Roe vs. Wade. The New Mexico facility is aptly named the “Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic.”
In what has to be the own of the century, the Temple released a statement to accompany its announcement.
“In 1950, Samuel Alito’s mother did not have options, and look what happened,” Malcolm Jarry, the co-founder of the Satanic Temple, said in a press release on Wednesday. “Prior to 1973, doctors who performed abortions could lose their licenses and go to jail. The clinic’s name serves to remind people just how important it is to have the right to control one’s body and the potential ramifications of losing that right.”

Justice Alito wrote the majority opinion that Roe vs. Wade was unlawful and did not need to be upheld. Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett agreed with him. Liberal justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kegan voted against overturning the case.
“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito wrote. “Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division.”
The Satanic Temple’s website features a cartoon image of a woman presumed to be Samuel Alito’s mother saying “If only abortionw as legal when I was pregnant.”
The Temple added that it plans to add more abortion clinics in other states in the future.
