Selena Gomez has clapped back at criticism she’s received for failing to mention Francia Raisa as a friend despite Raisa donating a kidney to Gomez. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gomez admitted that she struggles to make friends in Hollywood. “I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities,” she said. “My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong.” Ouch!
Francia Raisa has every right to be upset with Selena Gomez. She’s not “petty” for being upset that Selena called her “that girl” and didn’t care to mention her once in her documentary. Then on top of that, calls Taylor Swift her only friend in the industry. pic.twitter.com/TrAOus8YoV

- Gomez’s struggle with lupus and other health issues were revealed in 2015. Two years later, she underwent a kidney transplant. Selena Gomez’s good friend and star of “Bring It On: All or Nothing” Francia Raisa kindly donated one to her. They’d been friends since meeting at a children’s hospital charity appearance in 2017. And as recently as 2021, Gomez was thanking Raisa online for “blessing” her with a new kidney, writing: “I am forever grateful to you.”
- They must not be friends anymore. After the Rolling Stone interview diss, E! News shared a photo of Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa in the hospital after the transplant procedure together. They also included Gomez’s quote. This led Raisa herself to eventually respond, writing simply: “Interesting.” That comment seems to have been deleted since then. Raisa is also no longer following Gomez on Instagram.
- Whatever went wrong between them seems pretty recent. Earlier this year, Raisa and Gomez did a TikTok challenge together. Raisa also went to Gomez’s 30th birthday party in July 2022. Could this public slight have cut their friendship off?
- Gomez has since responded to the criticism. Instead of seeming contrite or clearing up the issue, Gomez instead appeared pretty pissed off about being called out, saying instead: “Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.” That’s a fair enough point, but somme would argue that it’s pretty hard to simply forget someone who gave you an entire organ from their body…
- Now Selena Gomez is getting even more flak for her lack of humility. “I would’ve got that kidney back in blood,” one person wrote after seeing Gomez’s response. Another added: “If I was Francia, I would drag her to the operation clinic.” A third simply wrote: “There had to be a better way to do this.”
Gomez has been doing a lot of press in support of her new Apple TV+ documentary, “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.” She uses the film to open up about her mental health, her relationship with Justin Bieber, and her life in Hollywood.
there had to be a better way to say this https://t.co/T3nCOBEisV
