Selena Gomez has urged fans to show “kindness” towards her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey. Those who followed Justin and Selena’s relationship in the 2010s became obsessed with the duo, dubbed #Jelena, and were devastated when they eventually broke up in 2018. Many have never accepted Justin’s relationship with Hailey Bieber (formerly Baldwin) and have continued to harass the woman online over the years, a campaign that got a new injection of venom this week after Hailey insisted she didn’t “steal” him from Selena Gomez.
- Hailey had never previously talked about the accusations publicly. However, in an intimate interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Hailey denied that she “stole” Justin Bieber from Selena Gomez and said she would never come between another couple’s relationship. “When him and I started hanging out, like. Okay, let’s just put it this way. When him and I ever started hooking up or anything of that sort, he was not ever in a relationship. Ever. At any point. I would never,” Hailey said. “It’s not my character to mess with someone’s relationship. I would just never do that. I was raised better than that. I’m not interested in doing that and I never was,” she said.
- Hailey’s comments only angered Jelena fans more. They began bombarding Hailey’s social media accounts even harder with vile comments, often tagging Selena in them as they attempted to defend the Only Murders in the Building star. However, their actions haven’t gone over well, and now Selena wants them to cut it out.
- Selena is calling for kindness instead. Taking to TikTok Live, Selena Gomez urged fans to be kind to one another above all else and stop with the negativity. “That’s exactly what I want,” she said. She added that it’s “ironic” that many of her fans support her Rare Beauty line and Rare Impact Fun but still treat people badly. “It’s not fair because no one should ever be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen. If you support Rare, I cannot thank you enough, but know that you are also representing what it means—and that is: Words matter. Truly matter.”
- She concluded by thanking fans for hearing her out. While it’s unclear whether they’ll actually listen to her and change their ways, Selena Gomez hopes that people can let her relationship with Justin Bieber, which has been over for years now, go so that he can get on with his life with his wife, Hailey.
