A Tennessee woman was shocked to come home one evening and find a naked sex offender wearing only her daughter’s shoes in her apartment. Daphne Crowley immediately called police upon discovering 27-year-old Michael Tyler Henegar in her home, but he escaped through a patio and fled into the woods before police arrived. Luckily, they caught up with him soon after, the WVLT-TV reports.
- Henegar was on the sex offender registry for years. Not only was he violating that by attempting to rob Crowley’s apartment in Knoxville, but turning up to a home where children are present and getting naked while wearing their shoes is a pretty serious offense.
- Henegar is believed to have gotten in through an unlocked door. While it’s unclear exactly what happened, police believe he may have come in around noon on December 19 before putting a drill and a work light into a children’s Scooby Doo bag. However, he was only discovered when Crowley came home and knocked on the door. Her daughter answered, and that’s when they noticed Henegar.
- When Crowley confronted him, Henegar ran into a wooded area. “Had I got a hold of him, I was going to beat him,” Crowley told reporters, showcasing wooden sticks. Thankfully, police arrested him in the woods soon after.
- Authorities believe he may have been in the apartment before. As Crowley told WVLT, “When they found him, he had stuff I knew that I had bought and had been looking. e took my grandkid’s toothbrush, toothpaste, Christmas stuff that we put in stocking stuffers. He took my daughter’s brand new Jordans.” She admitted that the incident had left her and her family quite scared and she even pushed her couch against her front door as a form of protection.
- Hopefully Henegar will stay in prison a long while. He was previously convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor in 2013 but has been charged with violating the registry several times since then, most recently in June. How he wasn’t already in prison is anyone’s guess.
