Is Sexercise Even A Real Thing? Um, Yes, And It Will Totally Change Your Life.

The whole concept of sexercise might not sound super appealing at first—after all, why would you want to spoil something as magical as sex with something as dreaded as exercise?—but it offers tons of benefits and they’re not just fitness-related. Here are few reasons you might want to see what all the fuss is about.

  1. It’s the single best way to get all your energy out. Have you ever felt so exhausted that you just can’t sleep or antsy after a long day? How about just full of pent-up energy for no damn reason whatsoever? Well, think of sexercise as the equivalent to running around outside for a few minutes but with an orgasm at the end. Could there be a better way to release all your energy?
  2. If you’ve tried everything else… Nothing will spice up your sex life like turning it into an exercise routine. If you and your partner are going through a boring patch where neither of you is super enthused about sex and you’re eager to expand your horizons, you’re in luck. Making sex the sweatiest part of your day will be a serious adventure no matter what usually turns you on.
  3. If you have repressed emotions or frustration, this will transform you. Talking things out is always the best policy, but sometimes you just don’t have words and let’s be honest, sometimes you just can’t be bothered. Energetic sex can be the best way to release your emotions—think of it as the full body equivalent to screaming at the top of your lungs for five minutes–and the chemicals it releases in your brain will even put you in a good mood at the end and have all kinds of other benefits. It’s a win-win situation.
  4. It’s hot as hell… sometimes literally. Sex is better when both partners are warm due to the increased blood flow, which strengthens orgasms. In fact, studies have shown that couples who wear socks during sex are 30% more likely to have orgasms as couples who don’t. But who wants to wear socks and ruin the sexy atmosphere? Working up a sweat during sexercise will get that blood flowing even more than socks could, so your orgasms are bound to be out of this world.
  5. There are literally so many options. If nothing else, sexercise is infinitely adaptable. In fact, the definition itself is a little tricky to pin down simply because there are just so many different ways to interpret it. Whether you choose to define it as certain positions that require some extra muscle and stamina or an actual routine to set you up for some serious fun, you’re bound to find something new try.
  6. It burns serious calories. The fact that sex burns calories is like finding out that wine reverses the aging process. It just sounds too good to be true. But while you probably shouldn’t go downing all the vintages expecting your crows feet to melt away, adding more sex to your daily life can only produce positive results. And while you might not want to cut the gym out of your routine entirely (unless you’re having a ridiculous amount of sex, which might actually be a nice challenge), studies have shown that just one round can burn up to 300 calories.
  7. Strong is sexy. No doubt you’ve heard this a lot lately. From tabloids to self-help books to posters at the gym, this bit of wisdom is everywhere these days. And nothing could be truer. Being physically fit is sexy as hell and it makes you all kinds of confident. Whether you work out regularly or not, showing your physical power in the bedroom is seriously hot and will give you a huge boost of self-esteem, which we all could use a little more of.
  8. Exercise releases endorphins. If you’re exercising hard enough (or sexercising hard enough), your body will release endorphins, which, in combination with the oxytocin released from climaxing, will totally blow your mind. It’s like have two kinds of orgasms at the same time, bringing the concept of the blended orgasm to a whole new level.
  9. It kills two birds with one stone. What could be more efficient than combining exercise and sex? Obviously going to the gym is important and sex shouldn’t totally take the place of your normal exercise routine no matter how energetic you and your partner are, but if you skip the gym one or two more days than usual, some high-powered bed-related fun can take the guilt away completely.
  10. It even makes normal sex better. Not only will it mix things up a bit, but sexercise will also just make you all around better in bed. You’ll have more stamina, strength, and become a lot more flexible, which makes all kinds of sex so much more pleasurable.
