Sign Language Interpreter Gives Incredible Performance Of Baby Got Back

Sign language is incredible. The system of symbols and motions to convey messages to those who have deafness or hearing difficulties is impressive, to say the least. There are so many ways to put emotion and flavor into it, as well, as evidenced by one sign language interpreter’s killer performance of “Baby Got Back.”

Kelly Kurdi is a professional when it comes to her amazing ASL skills. She made serious waves with her interpretation of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “W.A.P.” at Lollapalooza in 2021, and it’s clear that wasn’t a one-time thing.

Putting a song like “Baby Got Back” into sign language might seem like a challenging task, but it’s one Kelly completed with ease. What makes it even better is that she’s clearly feeling the lyrics and getting the audience into the spirit too.

“She makes ASL look too damn cool,” one commenter wrote after watching the routine on TikTok. Another added: “I love ASL interpreters at concerts. They look like they’re having more fun than the artist.”

Kelly herself took to social media recently to thank everyone for their nice comments. She explained that she’s passionate about sign language and bringing current music, from “Baby Got Back” to “W.A.P” and everything in between, to life.

“Thanks for the love on my page from hearing people but I’m just an interpreter passionate about providing access to a community I love and have learned everything from,” she wrote on Instagram. “If you’re still wondering why deaf and hard of hearing people go to concerts follow these pages and learn something new. Seeing an interpreter at a concert shouldn’t be shocking. Seeing a deaf interpreter on tour with every artist should be the norm!”

If all sign language interpreters were like her, the world would be a better place, for sure.
