This Simple Hair Hack Will Take Your Messy Bun To The Next Level In Seconds

If you have long hair, you’re most likely familiar with messy buns. Regardless of how luscious your locks are, it can be inconvenient or even uncomfortable sometimes to wear it down, like when you’re going on a run or redecorating your living room. That’s where the style comes in. It’s popular with people of all ages since it can be done in seconds and doesn’t require any tools (no brush? no problem). However, if you want to take your messy bun to the next level, there’s a hair hack that just might give you the added bit of chicness you’re after. Try it — you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

When I came across this video on TikTok, I immediately tried it out. Admittedly, I’m not someone who has a lot of know-how when it comes to hair and makeup. In fact, I don’t wear makeup anymore usually. However, I do have long hair and I am guilty of wearing it up more than I wear it down. The messy bun is a mainstay in my life, but sometimes my hair doesn’t want to cooperate (it’s super fine and weirdly wavy) and it ends up sticking out in all the wrong ways and looking awful. This hack made my messy bun have way more volume and looks way more put together. Better yet, it literally took about 30 seconds, so it didn’t wear down my patience.

Granted, this hack didn’t make my messy bun look quite as amazing as TikTok user @audreyvictoria_, who came up with the style in the first place. Nevertheless, she makes it easy to do and the final product ensures the look is good for a trip to the grocery store or a day at the office without looking out of place. All you need is two hair ties and you’re good to go.

If you want to give it a go yourself (and you totally should), it’s super simple. Pull your hair back as if you’re going to put it in a ponytail. However, on the last loop of your hair tie, pull just a slight bit of your hair through, making a mini bun of sorts on the end. Then, pull the loose hair to the front of your head.

Next, tie the other hair tie at the end of your locks. Divide the hair between your hands and twist it once before looping it through itself a few times. Finally, take that bagel-shaped bit of hair and pull it back and over the mini bun. You can use bobby pins to secure any remaining strands on the back of your head.

If that description seems too complicated, don’t be discouraged! @audreyvictoria_ makes the messy bun hack super easy in her video. I literally do this with my hair every day since I’ve seen it. If only all the tips on BeautyTok were so easy to try at home!
