A Single Girl’s Guide To New Year’s Eve

You’re almost through the holidays, but there is one last celebration to blow out the old year and ring in the new. You may have just spent the last 365 days dwelling on your single life, but New Year’s Eve is not the time or place for an attitude like that. There is no greater time to celebrate your independence than the biggest party holiday of the year. Bask in the glory of your freedom by following our guide to a single girl’s New Year’s Eve:

  1. Have something, anything to do. If you’re in a relationship, a romantic New Year’s Eve in can be a great idea. If you’re single, a romantic night in with your dog and Netflix is not. So for the love of all things holy, put down the remote, get your butt off the couch, and dress yourself up for a night out.
  2. Find a partner in crime. Team up with one of your single friends to make sure neither of you focus on not having a man. Being single doesn’t mean you’re alone. Having a friend to team the night with is further proof of that.
  3. Go out with your girlfriends. There is no greater time for a girl’s night out than New Year’s Eve. Not only will you have the ladies there to coach you out of the single life wallows, but also you’ll show yourself how great friendships can be just as fun (if not more) than a ball and chain.
  4. Avoid the couples. You may be best friends with a couple that couldn’t be more in love, but leave their relationship goals solo for the night. Going out with a couple will only remind you that you’re single for the New Year. Being single isn’t a bad thing, but watching their lovey dovey celebration will make you think it is.
  5. Kiss your girl at midnight. So many women fret about the midnight kiss. Ladies, it may be tradition, but it’s not that big of a deal. A kissless stroke of 12 doesn’t mean you’re doomed to spend the New Year alone. That being said, if you still want to have fun delving into tradition (which I for one encourage) a friendly kiss will do. Whether it’s a guy friend or one of your best girl’s, ring in the New Year with a kiss from a loved one, even if that love is platonic.
  6. Scout a great location. It’s all about where you go. Find a party, a fun event, or go out to your favorite bar. No matter where you live, there is always something going on to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Check all the local venues and then check in with your girls for a night to remember.
  7. Go in with positivity. Having a positive attitude can make your night. If you’re dwelling on being single all you’ll focus on is the couples you see out. Your happiness can really be determined by your mindset. So let go of feeling alone and say hello to the freedom that is the single life.
  8. Be a party girl. Say goodbye to the past year by kicking off the New Year as the life of the party. It’s a time for celebration, so let loose and have some fun. What’s holding you back? Start the New Year with confidence and you’ll be surprised what a party you can be.
  9. Even if it’s just for one night, celebrate the fact that you aren’t tied down. You’re free and independent to be selfish and live for yourself. Maybe this New Year will bring a new relationship, maybe it won’t, either way you should celebrate the fact that you made it another year.
