Skydiver Plunges To His Death, Landing On A High School Football Match

A skydiver in Tennessee plunged to his death, landing on a high school football field during a pre-game ceremony. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the man, whose name was not publicly released, hit the ground at David Crockett High School in Jonesborough. Sadly, he died from his injuries.

A statement from the Washington County Department of Education Chief Operations Officer Jarrod Adams expressed sadness at the man’s death. “On behalf of David Crockett High School, Daniel Boone High School, and the rest of the Washington County Schools community, we are saddened by the tragic incident that occurred prior to the start of tonight’s football game at the David Crockett High School football stadium,” he said, per CNN.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the injured skydiver that has passed away. We ask that everyone keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they deal with the loss of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.”

The school district said that when students return to class on Monday, they’ll be offered mental health support if needed. Given that many students were present at the time of the tragic accident, it’s likely they will need help to process what they witnessed and deal with any trauma.
