While plenty of people have a fear of flying, it’s actually a very safe way to get around. According to research by Harvard University, airplane travel is safer than driving a car, with the odds of being involved in a plane crash only 1 in 1.2 million. Your chances of dying in a plane crash are even smaller —  1 in 11 million. However, it’s always good to be prepared for any eventuality, which is why one man brings his own parachute on every flight, “just in case.”

TikToker Kagan Brooks was amused by her husband’s extreme approach to flying.

She took to the video-sharing platform to share a clip of her husband boarding a flight with a backpack that contains, as his wife shared, his “parachute.”

The camo-patterned backpack is strapped tightly to his back, though no one stops or questions him since it just looks like a standard rucksack.

He eventually takes it off and pops it into his overhead locker.

Kagan revealed that he brings the parachute when traveling “just in case.” She added, “I was laughing out loud the entire time.”

Given that they were flying Spirit Airlines, maybe it was for the best.

That seemed to be the tone of the jokes many commenters made on the now-viral clip.

“Smart. last I heard was spirit was charging extra fee for a normal traditional landing :),” one commenter cracked.

“Spirit airlines… checks out,” another joked.

“Probably the smartest ideas I’ve ever seen. This would help me with any plane anxiety in a way.”

In reality, the parachute wasn’t for the flight.

Kagan later shared that indeed, the original video was a joke. While her husband did indeed have a parachute on the backpack, he was bringing it with him to use for skydiving at his destination.

“My husband was bringing his rig to Miami so that he could go skydiving there and I thought people understood humor. But the comments section says otherwise,” she said.
