Artificial intelligence continues to advance on a daily basis, and some of the things it’s capable of are absolutely mindblowing. For instance, a guy on YouTube decided to try his hand at making a “South Park” deepfake with AI and the results are freaking people out.

  1. YouTuber demonflyingfox made the video. His skills with AI are clearly commendable, and he did a great job of bringing “South Park” characters like Cartman alike in his deepfake. In fact, many people remarked at just how “spot on” it was.
  2. This looks way too real. Obviously, the point of deepfakes (which are freaky enough on their own) is to look hyper-realistic. However, seeing the “South Park” characters we’re used to seeing in their animated form as “real” people is too much to bear!
  3. However, not everyone was a fan. Some people thought it was a bit too scary. “The blinking is very unsettling for some reason,” one person said. Another added, “It’s because it’s not natural, you can definitely tell it’s not a real person.” A third said: “The blinks are uncanny valley.”
  4. Whatever you think of deepfakes, this “South Park” clip is impressive. Sure, we should probably be careful how far we go with AI, but the fact that it’s even a possibility thanks to technology is pretty cool. Computers have become so smart over the years, and that can really come in handy. From medical and health advances to making our day-to-day lives easier, AI has plenty of upsides. There are loads of downsides, as well. Many people fear that AI will make everything “fake” and remove the humanity from the things we do and the ways we connect with others. Nevertheless, it’s here to stay and will likely only become more important as time goes on. A “South Park” deepfake is small potatoes, but it’s also kinda fun.
