If you’re a big fan of Star Wars, you should be celebrating the fact that Disney bought Lucasfilm and now owns all the rights to the franchise because they’re doing some awesome things with it. The next thing? Opening a hotel shaped like a giant ship at Disney World in 2021. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
- It’s more than a hotel — it’s a whole experience. “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” will open in 2021 and will be comprised of a two-night adventure on the ship, known as the Halcyon. “Once on board, you’ll cruise to the galaxy for two days and two nights while becoming the hero of your very own Star Wars adventure,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney Parks, at the Disney Parks’ presentation at the Anaheim Convention Center on Tuesday.
- It sounds like so much fun! As the press release explains, “From the Starcruiser Terminal, you will enter an exclusive launch pod for travel up to the Halcyon, your starcruiser in a galaxy far, far away. Through the pod’s viewports, it looks as though you are traveling through space to approach the massive ship that is much too large to land on any planet.” You also have a “spaceport of call” at Black Spire Outpost, which is where “special passenger transports” take you to Batuu, which is the destination for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
- You can see space from every window of the hotel. Of course it’s space you’ll see since you’re on board a giant spaceship. “Here, you spend the next two days and two nights living on board the space ship and everything from an alien crew to the fact that absolutely every window has a view out into space,” said creative director of Walt Disney Imagineering, Ann Morrow Johnson. But don’t worry that you’ll constantly be looking at the same scene. The scenes will change regularly, just as if you were really hurtling through space.
- You’ll get to do your own thing and have some amazing times. While the whole two-night experience is began and ended with the same group of people, that doesn’t mean you won’t have time in between to do your own thing. You can meet some classic and new Star Wars characters and even interact with them. “Because this is Star Wars, you might suspect that not all is going to go according to plan,” said Johnson. “Be wary of who you make allegiances with because the choices you make affect the course of your journey, and ultimately determines how your Star Wars story unfolds.”
- Booking for the hotel will begin at a later date, but I’m psyched. Keep your eye on the Disney World website for further information on when bookings for “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” are available.
