Teen Girl Who Murdered Mom And Stuffed Body Into Suitcase Released From Prison Early For Good Behavior

Heather Mack, the woman who was convicted in 2015 along with her boyfriend of murdering her mother and stuffing the body into a suitcase has been released from prison for good behavior. Mack was only 18 when she went on vacation to Bali, Indonesia with her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, and her mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack. However, none of them ever came home from that holiday.

  1. Schaefer beat Wiese-Mack to death with a fruit bowl. After he’d killed her, Mack joined in to help stuff her mother’s body into a suitcase before they put it into the back of a taxi. He claimed it happened in the heat of a moment after an argument, though that’s not exactly true.
  2. Police found them hiding out in Bali days later. After going on the run, police discovered Schaefer and Mack hiding out at a different hotel a few days after Wiese-Mack’s death. Mack later admitted that the couple had been planning to kill her mother for a while.
  3. Mack was pregnant at the time of the murder. She was sentenced to 10 years behind bars and gave birth while in prison. She was even allowed to keep the baby with her until her daughter turned two, at which point she went to live with a local woman. Mack has been allowed to have weekly visits with the little girl since.
  4. Now, Mack has been released for good behavior. She left Bali’s Kerobokan prison on Friday, October 29. The chief for women inmates, Lili, revealed that she was given a 34-month reprieve for not causing any trouble behind bars. Mack is said to have joined in on fashion and dance activities during her sentence and had become religious. She will reportedly be deported back to the US.
