- The child should never have gotten hold of the gun. According to family and friends who were attending the party, they were all playing cards when they heard the gunshot and found the boy with a serious wound in his chest.
- He was rushed to a nearby fire station for treatment. Unfortunately, by the time he got there, it was too late to save him and he died from his wounds. This was an entirely avoidable tragedy that illustrates just how much gun control is needed.
- The gun apparently fell from one of the adult’s pockets. It’s unclear why you would need to bring a gun to a child’s birthday party, but someone did and investigators believe that the gun fell from the owner’s pocket, leading to the child picking it up. How all of this went unnoticed is also unfathomable, but here we are.
- This is the fifth casualty just this year in Texas. According to activist group Everyone For Gun Safety, the toddler’s death is the fifth such documented case of a child dying by gunshot in 2020 alone in the state of Texas. Only Tennessee has had as many this year. In total, there have been 229 accidental shootings of children this year, which is absolutely obscene.
