How To Tell If He’s The Guy You’re Going To Grow Old With

There’s nothing sweeter than spotting an elderly couple holding hands as they walk through the mall. Even if you’ve never seen them before, you’ll be happy for them, because it’s rare to find a couple that has stuck together for so many years. Of course, even though divorce rates are high, that happily-ever-after ending could happen to you. The man you’re with now just might be the man you’re going to grow old with.

  1. You want the same things. You can’t stay together forever if you have different plans for the future. You two should want to live in the same place, go on the same vacations, and have the same amount of children. Otherwise, plenty of issues could pop up.
  2. Your family loves him. Sure, you could marry someone that your parents hate, but life will be a whole lot easier if your man is welcome at family parties. Plus, when the people around you like your man, they won’t try to plant seeds of doubt in your mind to convince you to leave him.
  3. You consult him before making big decisions. If you bring a puppy home without asking him if he wants a pet, he’s probably going to start screaming. You two need to act as a team, which means you should consult each other before making any life changing decisions.
  4. You share household responsibilities. If you’re the only one who ever washes the dishes, resentment is eventually going to creep in. That’s why you two should divide your chores from the start. If you have an equal amount of work to do, nobody can complain.
  5. You don’t mind his little quirks. If you hate the noise he makes when he chews his cereal now, you’re going to loathe it in ten years. That’s why you need to find someone who has quirks that you actually find adorable. Then growing old with him won’t seem like a chore.
  6. You can handle fights like adults. If you threaten to break up after every argument, it’s eventually going to become a reality. However, if you can discuss a tricky situation without placing blame and throwing around insults, you two are going to last. It pays to be mature.
  7. He knows how to cheer you up. Your relationship isn’t always going to be sunshine and rainbows. On your dark days, your man should know how to make you smile. If he can get a laugh out of you when everyone else is only causing you tears, he’s a keeper.
  8. You never put each other down. It doesn’t matter how angry you are at each other. You should never insult your partner over the things they’re insecure about. You can’t take back the mean words you say, so keep them to yourself. After all, you’re the one person that’s supposed to make your partner feel perfect.
  9. The sex is still good. When you’re old and grey, sex will never be the same as it was when you were young and nimble. However, if the sex is still enjoyable after a few years of dating, you’re heading down the right path. You don’t want to lose your passion or you could lose your relationship.
  10. You love him more than anything else. If you love your man more than anything else in the entire world, you two can make your relationship last. That much emotion will cause you to do whatever it takes to keep your partner in your life. Happy relationships may look effortless, but they require a lot of hard work, which is why you should use your love as motivation to keep things running smoothly.
