When you imagine National Dog Show winners, you likely think of lithe, beautifully cut and displayed dogs with a grandiose air, like the 2018 winner, the Whippet, or the three winners before it—the Brussels griffon, greyhound, and Skye terrier, respectively. This year, however, things changed: Thor, the chunky bulldog, took home the grand prize at this year’s event.

- Isn’t he a stunner? Thor is 2 years old and weighs 60 pounds. He’s far from your typical National Dog Show winner, but that’s part of the beauty of his victory. He’s still absolutely gorgeous because he’s a big chunky boy, not in spite of it.
- He beat out so many other dogs. Thor’s victory came after he beat out more than 2,000 other dogs of 193 different breeds, which is pretty impressive. NBC co-host David Frei described Thor as “a beautiful hunk of a dog” and also praised the good boy for being so friendly and well-tempered.
- He’s actually very athletic. According to Thor’s handler, Eduardo Paris, told The Philadelphia Inquirer that his pup is actually really athletic regardless of his size. “You should see how high he can jump. He loves to play with his kennel mate Chihuahuas, and he has beautiful construction. I think that’s why he won.”
- The runner up was a worthy pup too. Thor won first place, but second place in this year’s National Dog show went to the Havanese, which also happens to be ranked as the number one show dog in the world. It just goes to show how amazing Thor really is.
- All dogs are amazing really. If we’re being honest, all dogs are very good boys or girls and deserve lots of love, attention, and affection. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dog I didn’t want to smoosh and squish with lots of hugs and kisses, because isn’t that what dogs are for?
Justice has been served! All is right in the world. Thor is the champ! #NationalDogShow #GoDawgs https://t.co/Km3scvZlNp
