Unemployed And Looking For Work? There Are 150 Jobs Open In Antarctica Right Now

If you’re unemployed and looking for work or you already have a job but desperately need a change of pace, you might be interested to know that there are 150 jobs available on the continent of Antarctica at the moment in loads of different fields. Are you adventurous enough to head down there?

  1. The positions have been posted by the Australian government. They’re looking for qualified and passionate candidates to come work at the Australian research stations on Antarctica. Jobs are available for shorter 4-month terms or longer 15-month terms, so if you don’t fancy living in the coldest place on earth for long periods of time, you don’t necessarily have to miss out.
  2. Whatever your specialty, there’s probably a position for you. As we move into 2020, there’s a huge gap in the employment sector in Antarctica, hence the large number of available positions. The Australian government is looking for everything from welders, electricians, and IT workers to carpenters, plumbers, and even doctors.
  3. The wages are pretty impressive too. An IT worker can expect a starting salary of about $74,469 while doctors and other medical practitioners start at $199,031. Not only that, but everyone, regardless of their actual job, will get an extra $60,974 on top of their base salary, which is pretty amazing.
  4. You get free food and accommodation. All of your wages will be yours to keep and you won’t have to pay for rent, food, or other bills because they’re all covered and are part of the benefits of the job. This just gets better and better!
  5. It’s not easy to get a job there, of course. Because it’s a completely remote location that you can’t just up and leave from at any time, all applicants will have their mental and physical health screened before they’re even considered for a position. And while both men and women are welcome and encouraged to apply, it’s worth noting that about 82% of last year’s workers were men. Come on, ladies – we need to even this up!
  6. It’s hard work but there’s a lot of beauty to it too. Not only will you get to see the likes of seals and penguins in their natural habitat, but you can also gaze at the beautiful aurora australi by night and enjoy activities like table tennis and mountain climbing with your fellow workers.
  7. Ready to apply yet? If so, check out the available positions and application instructions on the Australian Antarctic Program’s website HERE. Good luck!
