These Virtual Escape Rooms Let You Solve Puzzles With Friends From A Safe Distance

If you’ve never completed (or attempted to complete) an escape room with your BFFs, you’re seriously missing out. They’re exciting, mind-bending, anxiety-inducing (in a good way), and so much fun! And while it’s not possible to head out to do them in person right now, virtual escape rooms exist so you can enjoy an altered version of the experience.

  1. In case you’re not familiar with escape rooms… Generally speaking, every escape room has a theme and a storyline which you’ll follow. Whether it’s helping police discover who committed a murder or a mad scientist looking for a cure for a fatal condition, the job of your team is to solve a series of puzzles and clues in order to reach the conclusion of the story, ultimately giving you an “answer” and letting you out of the room.
  2. So how do virtual escape rooms work? It might seem like a strange concept to bring online but it actually works pretty well and pretty much just like it does in person. You get your family or friends together over video chat or text (or even in person, if you live together) and solve the puzzles set out online. Each should take between an hour or two and believe me, the time will fly!
  3. How many do you have to choose from? Trapped in the Web is offering five different but equally excellent virtual escape rooms, each with their own unique theme and level. For instance, if this is your first time, you’ll want to stick with the “School’s Out” room, which is for beginners. There are several intermediate and a couple of expert level rooms too if you consider yourself a pro at this point.
  4. How much does it cost? In-person escape rooms can get pretty pricey, but the virtual counterparts will run you anywhere from $4.30 to $9.80. Not bad! Once you pay, you get ready to begin, hit the button, and you’re off. While you’re not under an hour time limit like “real” escape rooms, you’ll still want to finish it ASAP, especially if you’re as competitive as I am.
  5. Ready to play? You can see what rooms are available and book them online. Good luck!
