Washington State Is Offering Free Marijuana Joints With Your COVID-19 Vaccine

While no one should require an incentive to get the COVID-19 vaccine — not ending up intubated in an ICU or even dead from an illness for which there’s a vaccine is kind of enough for most people! — it’s kinda nice to know that a lot of businesses are going the extra mile to encourage the hesitant among us to go for it. From free coffee and donuts to discounts on some of your favorite brands, there’s no shortage of vaccine perks out there, but Washington State might have the best one yet: free pre-rolled marijuana joints when you get yours.

  1. The incentive is called “Joint for Jabs.” The state’s liquor and cannabis board announced the promotion on Monday, the New York Times reports, and said that not only is it effective immediately but it will run through July 12. That gives eligible residents plenty of time to get their vaccine shot scheduled and get out there and get it!
  2. So how does it work? “Joints for Jabs” is pretty simple. You get your COVID-19 vaccine and if you’re 21 or older, you can claim a prerolled joint at a participating retailer that hosts an active vaccine clinic. This is good for a first or second dose, but you’ll only be able to get the joint – you can’t choose an edible or anything else.
  3. Washington State already has a pretty impressive vaccine record. So far, 58% of residents have had at least one dose and 49% have had both doses and are fully vaccinated.
  4. That said, the state isn’t the first or only to offer this kind of promotion. A dispensary in Arizona recently revealed it too would offer up free marijuana joints or gummy edibles for anyone in the state over the age of 21 who got their vaccine.
  5. If weed isn’t your thing, you can also get a drink. That’s because Washington’s liquor and cannabis board also recently approved a measure that allows residents 21 and older to get a free wine, beer, or cocktail if you can prove you’ve been vaccinated.
