What Life Is Like When Your Mom’s Your Best Friend

It might be a unique relationship, but for some of us, we couldn’t imagine not being best friends with our moms. They’ve always been there for us and after we got through the teen years, we realized that they’re the truest friends we’ll ever have. If your mom’s your best friend, you’ll easily relate to all of these:

  1. She knows literally everything about you. She’s been a part of your life since day one. You can’t hide anything from her. You don’t have to censor yourself or watch what you say. She already knows your past and she loves you anyway.
  2. She’ll never try to steal a guy from you. Sometimes best friends steal the perfect guy, but your mom won’t try that. She’s happy for you and does whatever she can to make sure things work out.
  3. She’s the world’s biggest cheerleader. Want somebody on your side? Look no further than Mom. She’s cheered you on, even when others didn’t believe in you. She’s the one friend who’ll be supportive no matter what crazy dreams you have.
  4. You know she’d do anything for you. You mom doesn’t have the same limits as most best friends — she’d do damn near anything for you. If you’re looking for a partner in crime, your mom’s the one to have by your side.
  5. You don’t have to choose between family and friends. Sometimes it’s easy to feel torn between your friends and family. When your mom’s your best friend, there’s no choosing. You get both in one incredible person.
  6. She keeps you grounded. When the world seems to be too much, she’s there to pick you up. When you’re stressed, she calms you. No matter what’s going on in life, she’s there to keep you grounded.
  7. She’s the best wingwoman ever. Best friends usually act as a wing woman so you’ll stop bitching about being single. Your mom does it because she wants to see you happy and of course, because she wants you to give her a few grandkids.
  8. She’s not afraid to tell it like it is. No one will be more blunt with you than your mom. Luckily, as best friends, you get the same privilege. If you want the truth with no sugar coating, just talk to her.
  9. She knows you’re crazy, but she doesn’t care. Other friends might call you out on your unique brand of crazy, but your mom doesn’t care. She’s used to it. In fact, it’s one of the things that makes you two so good together. After all, where do you think you got it from?
  10. Her stories make you feel normal. You think you have some stories, but your mom’s been there and done that already. By the time you hit 18 or 19, your older best friend starts telling you about her wild days and suddenly, your life feels normal instead of crazy and out of control.
  11. She loves hearing you brag. Most friends get sick of hearing you brag about how hot your new boyfriend is or how you’re killing it a work. Your mom doesn’t. She loves hearing your bragging because she’s immensely proud of you.
  12. You’re always prepared for the future. Having an older woman as your best friend gives you some insight into the future. Besides, you’re carrying her genes, so you kind of know what to expect from your looks and health too.
  13. Though things have changed, she’s always been your BFF. You’re not her cute little baby anymore, but you know she’s always been more than just a mom. She’s been your best friend from day one. Honestly, who else has your back the way she does?
  14. Gossiping is so much easier. Odds are, you both have your own friend groups. While you’re great together, your other friends still feel a little weird with a mom around. That just makes it easier for the two of you to gossip about your individual friends.
  15. It’s perfectly okay to hang out and do nothing. There’s no pressure to go to a bar, find the perfect restaurant or get all dressed up. When it’s girls night with your mom, hanging out and watching TV is fine.
  16. You’re okay turning into her. Why wouldn’t you want to be just like your best friend? You can’t believe your other friends balk at the idea of turning into their moms. You see yours as strong, independent and the person you’ve always wanted to be.
  17. She’s always there for you, even when your other friends aren’t. You’ve seen friends come and go, but your mom has always been there for you. She’s your best friend soulmate. Even when your closest friends seem to disappear, you know she’ll be there.
  18. You love making her feel younger. While she gives you experience, you help keep her feeling young. Between the two of you, you somehow turn into the perfect mix of youth and wisdom that makes you an unstoppable duo.
