Whoopi Goldberg Officially Returning For ‘Sister Act 3,’ Disney Confirms Buena Vista Pictures

It’s official: Whoopi Goldberg will reprise her role as Deloris in Sister Act 3, Disney has confirmed. The third installment in the singing nun franchise has been in development for a few months now, as Goldberg herself announced. However, it was unclear until now whether or not she’d actually signed on to the project. Thankfully, she has!

  1. Disney announced the news as part of their Investor Day. It was a day of big announcements over at Disney on Friday, December 11, with Sister Act 3 being confirmed along with the likes of Hocus Pocus 2. We also learned the release date of Indiana Jones 5 and found out that Christian Bale will be the villain of Thor 4. Frankly, there was almost too much good news to bear at once!
  2. Goldberg won’t just be starring, she’ll be producing. In addition to coming back as Deloris, Goldberg will also act as producer on the project, which is pretty reassuring. After all, who knows the franchise better than the star herself? It makes you feel confident that it’s going to be REALLY good.
  3. Tyler Perry will be directing. Perry and Goldberg have worked together previously, so they likely have a great working relationship and will come together to make Sister Act 3 an incredible success. Ooh, I’m getting excited just writing about it!
  4. Sadly, there’s no release date just yet. While it’s unclear when exactly Sister Act 3 will come to be, and whether it’ll only be a Disney+ streaming exclusive – we do know it’s going to premiere there, so there’s that! – or if we’ll get a theatrical release too (which would probably be better, if all goes well COVID-wise). However, it should be pretty comforting knowing that it’s coming at all. I can’t wait to learn all the songs!
