You’ve met a new guy and you can’t help but get excited. He’s intelligent, funny, charming, and actually really hot. He also seems to be genuinely into you, which is awesome. However, you get the sneaking suspicion that you’re not the only woman in his life. In fact, you may even have proof of it. But why would a guy lie about dating someone?
- He’s a player. Ugh, another one! If the guy tells you that he’s 100% single knowing that he’s not, it’s likely a lie he’s well-versed in telling. He doesn’t want dating someone to interfere with his desire to date someone (or many someones) else. He figures you’ll never find out differently, so where’s the harm? You’ve probably met way too many guys like this before and should know by now to steer clear.
- He’s trying to get you to sleep with him. This is another popular reason a guy would lie about dating someone. You’re not exactly going to get all hot and bothered knowing that he’s already in a relationship or sleeping with someone else, are you? He thinks his chances of getting laid are way better if you think he’s totally unattached. Please prove him wrong.
- He’s only just met the other woman and isn’t sure how he feels. It’s possible that the guy is lying about dating someone else because he’s only just met her and to call what they’re doing “dating” is a bit generous. Of course, he should still be open about this with you as well as with her. It’s fine to talk to multiple people if you keep it all above board. Otherwise, you’re being a bit gross.
- He’s in an open relationship but doesn’t know how you’d feel about it. It’s entirely possible that while he is involved with someone else, they’re in an open relationship and/or are polyamorous, meaning he’s not technically doing anything wrong by talking to you. However, the fact that he still feels the need to lie about dating someone else because he worries that you wouldn’t want to get involved with him if you knew the truth is not a good sign. Just be honest, guys!
- He’s a liar. At the end of the day, this is true regardless of the reasons listed above. If a guy decides to lie straight to your face about the fact that he’s dating someone else, he’s a liar. There’s literally no other way to put it. You’re better off getting away from him as soon as possible either way.
