Woman Buys First House With $52,000 Earned From Donating Her Eggs

A Nebraska woman managed to buy her first home with the $52,000 she made from two rounds of egg donation. Rachel, a lawyer, successfully donated a total of 36 eggs so far and used the cash to invest in property, making her a homeowner at the age of 25. While the process does come with risks, Rachel says she’s had no adverse effects and certainly no regrets about her decision to donate.

  1. Rachel believes she could have earned even more. Many agencies allow donators to name their price, and Rachel admits her first round of donations was low because she didn’t know how much to ask for. “The first time around the agency I was working with set the payment as I was really new to the process so I didn’t really know what to expect or ask for. So I received $12k in compensation for my first donation where I donated 15 eggs,” she recalled. “I put this money straight into my savings as I knew I wanted to buy a house soon. I first donated in September 2019 and the couple has already had a baby, which is really successful. So, for my second donation, I increased my compensation rate to $20k.”
  2. Her second donation was a no-brainer. Rachel revealed that because she had successfully donated eggs once before, her second time was even more of a breeze because she was seen as a more desirable candidate. “After having been a donor before it makes my profile more popular and desirable. It is also less risky as I know what to expect so I am less likely to back out,” she explained. “I put this money together with my first compensation payment and I was able to use it as a down payment on my dream home for my boyfriend and me.”
  3. She absolutely plans on doing it again. She’s already been matched with another couple who offered her $20,000 again, and while she thought of asking more this time around, she’s happy to accept the money she’s been offered. “For my third donation, I thought about increasing the payment to £18k [$25k], but I was offered $20k again which I accepted. I’m not sure how I am going to spend that money yet,” she said.
  4. Of course, this isn’t all about financial gain. While Rachel loves that she’s been able to buy a house and have extra money to play with, there’s also an emotional element to egg donation that she finds especially rewarding. “It is really crazy and interesting to see how much people want to be parents. Some people are willing to pay huge amounts of money,” she revealed. “It is such a rewarding experience, and I am so grateful that it has allowed me to buy my dream home. It makes me feel warm inside knowing that I can help them with this. Even though I am unsure of whether I want a family in the future, it feels amazing that I can help other families in this way, especially as they are so set on having a family.”
