Woman Drowns Niece’s 1-Month-Old Baby After Infant’s Father Refuses To Have Sex With Her

A Brazilian woman allegedly drowned her niece’s 1-month-old baby in a tub of water after the infant’s father refused to have sex with her. Maria Aparecida Monteiro Apolinario is said to have committed the horrendous crime at the child’s father’s house in the town of Nova Vicosa on November 28, The Sun reports.

  1. Apolinario is said to have propositioned the man for sex. According to reports, she was socializing with her niece and her niece’s husband at the couple’s house when Apolinario suggested the man go with her to a bar next door to the house while the baby slept on the couch. It was there that Apolinario came onto him.
  2. She was infuriated by being rejected. Police say that after the man rejected her, Apolinario went back to the house claiming that she needed to use the bathroom and returned after 20 minutes, at which point she was “acting strangely.”
  3. The baby was missing when his mother got back to the house. She noticed that her son wasn’t where she left him and that he was gone. Panic-striken, she immediately alerted everyone in the area that the baby was nowhere to be found and everyone began looking for him… except for Apolinario.
  4. The baby’s mother noticed the water tank in the yard had a missing lid. When she looked inside, she found her baby’s body floating lifeless inside. She immediately pulled him out and called emergency services, but they were sadly unable to revive the infant.
  5. Apolinario denies killing the baby but she’s been arrested and charged. She was charged with manslaughter and booked into a cell in Teixeira de Freitas, where she remains. She claims that she didn’t even see the baby and in fact, it was the baby’s father who attacked her when she exited the bathroom. “When I got to the front door, my niece’s husband punched me and accused me of killing his son. I said ‘what son for God’s sake?’ I hadn’t even seen the baby,” she reportedly said. “They said the baby was on the sofa, and the baby’s mother was just screaming that I had killed her son. How could I kill a child if I also have children? I don’t understand anything. They went into the residence and she came out with the baby all wet and said the baby was in the water tank. I wasn’t drunk, I don’t drink, I’m not in the habit.”
