A man who was already on probation for domestic assault has been re-arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend and her uncle. Lavelle D. Hayes, 25, is believed to have murdered Bhritnay Taylor and Adrian Burns after Taylor attempted to break up with him, the Davenport Journal reports.
- The murder occurred on August 7. At roughly 11:40 a.m., Taylor and Burns showed up to see Hayes so that she could end her relationship with the suspect. She’s said to have brought her uncle along for protection as she was worried about Hayes would react. It turns out, she had every right to worry.
- Hayes shot them both. At some point during the conversation, Hayes reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Burns in the back of the head. He then shot Taylor multiple times. Both victims succumbed to their injuries and sadly passed away. Police found Burns in the front seat of a car and Taylor’s body in the middle of the road in Texas.
- He immediately left the scene after callously murdering two people. St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell said that cell phone data revealed that Hayes got into a Lyft moments after the shooting before catching a Greyhound bus out of state. Thankfully, he was soon arrested and brought into custody.
- Hayes is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He’s also charged with two counts of armed criminal action and is being held on $5 million cash bond in the Dallas area, though police are working to extradite him back to Missouri, where he lives.
