Women Can’t Stop Thirsting Over The Ghostface Mask On TikTok — Here’s Why

Women Can’t Stop Thirsting Over The Ghostface Mask On TikTok — Here’s Why TikTok/ 99asmrr | TikTok/EliteReading

The internet is a strange ol’ place, one in which Travis Kelce is painted as a real-life Prince Charming, people get into cut-throat arguments over the color of stripes on a dress, and apparently, women on TikTok are thirsting over Ghostface from the “Scream” franchise. While everyone’s familiar with the iconic mask worn by the killer in the slasher series, I can’t exactly say it’s made me want to get it on. Social media clearly disagrees.

The Ghostface mask itself was iconic long before TikTok.

Not only did the original “Scream” movie back in 1996 introduce it into the pop culture lexicon, but it’s remained an ever-available Halloween costume every year since. It makes sense — killers are scary, especially when you can’t see their faces! The movie itself was incredibly popular, with the first movie making more than $173 million in the worldwide box office. To this day, it still has an 81% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Ghostface trend on TikTok has been around for a while.

This goes back to 2021, when users of the app were changing their profile pics to the mask to promote the new movie. However, the Ghostface TikTok trend took on a whole new meaning by October 2023 thanks to the romance horror movie “Scream for Us” by Molly Doyle.

Doyle’s novel features lots of sexy times with a man in a Ghostface mask. The protagonist, Quinn, and the guy, Damien, get it on while Damien is in character, which has turned a lot of readers on and made them want to reenact the scenes in real life.

The women on the hashtag have been sharing that they’ve been texting their male partners and begging them to buy the mask. to bring home. Many of the videos play audio from the movie over the clips, and some even include video of the women making out with said male partners in the Ghostface mask.

This is bizarre, but not the strangest trend to come from TikTok. Something tells me things will get even weirder from here!
