You Need This Boob Soap—It Could Save Your Life

The fight against breast cancer can use all of the support it can get. Two kickass agencies teamed up to create a bar of BoobSoap to encourage people to do their breast self-exams. It’s a simple action that can lead to life-saving results. Early detection is key in battling breast cancer. This soap’s here to remind you to check those breasts!

  1. Breast cancer’s incredibly common. According to the official breast cancer organization, “About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.” These are big numbers. I’m sure you know 8 women—think that statistically one of you will have breast cancer. That’s wild. It’s also the second most common cancer coming just after skin cancer.
  2. The statistics are alarming. About 40,610 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2017 from breast cancer. For women in the U.S, breast cancer is more of a killer than any other cancer, even lung. According to the breastcancer.org: “it’s estimated that about 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women will be breast cancers.” This cancer is just so prominent and women suffer from it far more than men.
  3. Many women don’t check for it. You hear all over the place that you should be checking your breasts regularly. A reminder is even on some birth control packets. Though how often do you do it? How often do any of us do it? Not enough, that’s for sure. Some of it may be avoidance (not wanting to know), but some of it may also be just a lack of education. In sum, women don’t do the suggested breast self-exam, so this soap is seeking out to help the process.
  4. Breast cancer is very treatable. There have been great strides in cancer treatment across the world, but even more so with breast cancer because we’ve learned so much about it. There are now a variety of treatment options to treat different types and stages. Just know that breast cancer isn’t a death sentence. Knowing that may help you be more willing to check out what’s going on in your breasts. Otherwise, it’s easy to be freaked out and totally evade the topic.
  5. The agency who created it teamed up with a breast cancer charity. The soap! It was created by an agency called Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B) London. While they’re a fabulous organization on their own, they sought the guidance of professionals in the field. CP+B roped in CoppaFeel, a breast cancer awareness charity. CoppaFeel does amazing work like promoting the hashtags #TrustYourTouch and #ShowerHijack where they tackle public showers with material on breast self-exams. Together these two created a beautiful product that is meaningful and fun.
  6. The reminder is when the soap runs out.  According to CP+B: “Each scented BoobSoap is designed to last 30 days, and when it runs out you’re reminded to check your boobs again in the shower.” The suggestion for how often to do a self breast-exam is once a month, so this is perfect.
  7. Bonus: the soap’s boob shaped. The soap is shaped like a lovely boob to keep with the theme! It’s fun to wash your boobs with boobs. Plus, these tatas serve a serious purpose. Just because they’re purposeful doesn’t mean they can’t be glamorous, though.
  8. There are even three scents. If you’re particular about your body wash or just prefer certain scents, you’re in luck. These soaps come in three scents: Violet Blossom, Lavender Hills and Rose Buds. I know, these soaps are for serious work, but might as well have fun along the way. Note that they’re also all natural! People in this video that were shown BoobSoap for the first time and gave the smell a thumbs up.
  9. The founders care about early detection. In an interview with the site The Debrief, CP+B said this: “We knew early detection is key in the battle against breast cancer and figured something like BoobSoap could have a genuinely important role to play, whilst also adding a dash of fun and gorgeousness into the equation.” Further, the National Breast Cancer Organization says: “Forty percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast self-exam is very important.” Early detection is crucial and the founders know this.
  10. Checking for lumps is easy (and made easier by BoobSoap). The process of checking for lumps isn’t difficult, it’s just a matter of learning how. They should be done in the shower, in front of a mirror, or laying down. National Breast Cancer Organization says, “Using the pads of your fingers, move around your entire breast in a circular pattern moving from the outside to the center, checking the entire breast and armpit area. Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, or hardened knot.” Beyond these simple instructions, BoobSoap also has a card showing signs and symptoms to be aware of, making the whole process easier.
