Not everyone is good at putting their feelings into words and being in tune with their partner’s moods, but you can’t expect a guy to read your mind, so sometimes you just have to say things out loud. Just think about how good it makes you feel when he says them to you, and you’ll understand the importance of finding the right words and using them. Here’s what guys wish their girlfriends would say more often:

  1. “You’re the best sex I’ve ever had.” This is a no-brainer. Every guy loves validation that his sexual prowess is worthy of you. Not only does it mean you’ll want to keep having sex with him, but it means he has all your exes and past flings beat.
  2. “I love when you…” Whether it’s something sexual you can’t get enough of or something sweet he does like bring you a coffee in bed on Sunday mornings, it’s never a bad idea to voice your appreciation. If you never tell him he’s being a great boyfriend, he might start to think you don’t even notice.
  3. “Your friends are awesome.” You don’t necessarily have to be best friends with his friends, but if he knows you at least like them, he’ll never have to worry about you getting annoyed about the time he spends with them.
  4. “I’m in no rush to get married.” Of course lots of guys want to get married one day, but they also don’t want to feel like they’re being bullied into it before they’re ready. Most guys what to come to the conclusion that they want to marry their current girlfriend in their own time, however long that may take. Knowing you don’t have your relationship on some kind of arbitrary timeline is a relief, because then he doesn’t have to worry about any sudden ultimatums.
  5. “My dad loves you.” It can be scary for a guy to meet his girlfriend’s dad, so it’s probably nice to hear that he made a good impression. If he can win over your father, the rest of your family should be a piece of cake.
  6. “You look great.” It’s not only women who like to get compliments on their appearance. If he just got a haircut, or he’s dressed up for a special occasion, he’d love to hear you tell him he looks good. Or even if he just looks extra hot one day. Let him know!
  7. “You’re right.” No one likes a person who can’t admit when they’re wrong, so if you can back down from an argument once and awhile and tell your boyfriend that he’s right, he’ll definitely take notice. Also, the ability to apologize is essential in a healthy relationship. It’s not a competition, it’s just common sense.
  8. “Can you help me with…” Whether you need him to open a jar of salsa, or figure out how to use a computer program, or learn all the features in your new car, when you ask him for help it makes him feel useful. He probably knows you could do it yourself if you had to, but he likes to help if he can, so you might as well let him.
  9. “You make me feel safe.” There’s not much a guy loves more than feeling like he can protect you and you trust him enough to let your guard down around him. If you feel physically and emotionally secure with him, he knows he’s doing something right.
  10. “I love you.” If he’s said those three little words, he definitely wants you to say them back. If it’s right away, great, but what he really wants is for you to mean it when you say it. The words won’t mean anything unless they are genuine.
