A Tennessee man reportedly flung his own penis out of his car window as he was engaged in a high-speed chase with police last week. Tyson Gilbert, 39, is said to have thrown the severed member because voices on the radio told him he should in order to save the world.
- It all started out so innocently. As Newsweek reports, Gilbert was parked illegally and blocking the highway in Dowelltown when police approached him. However, once they turned on their lights, Gilbert took off, sparking a chase.
- Two branches of the Tennessee Highway Patrol had to get involved in the chase. They aided multiple police departments in trying to get Gilbert to pull over.
- At some point during the chase, Gilbert threw his own penis out the window. According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, “Gilbert opened the door to his vehicle, where the trooper observed Gilbert was bleeding from an alleged self-inflicted wound. Gilbert shut the vehicle’s door and sped away.”
- He was “naked and covered in blood” at the time of the incident. Bobby Johnson of the THP told local news station WJLE that it was very clear something was wrong with Gilbert. “When I pulled up behind him and turned my lights on he took off and refused to stop. He was all over the road the whole time,” he recalled. “He turned off on Old Liberty Road and came to a stop. He opened his door. He was naked and covered in blood. He then shut his door and kept driving.”
- The chase lasted for 30 miles. They tried putting out two sets of tire spikes to stop him, but he just kept going. By the time they managed to box him in, he was driving only on rims. He asked for medical treatment and was taken to a local hospital, but HIPAA privacy laws prevented authorities from saying what happened to Gilbert’s penis.
