Police are calling for the public’s help to locate a woman who climbed over a barrier near the Bronx Zoo’s lion exhibit and began professing her love for one of the animals while throwing $1 bills. Cellphone footage obtained by NBC NY shows the woman wearing a red dress and a blonde wig approaching the lion with two dozen roses as she tells the person filming “I miss him so much.”
- The woman continually confessed her love for the lion. The video shows the woman waving at other people as she tells the lion, “King, I love you. I came back for you!” She then starts dancing before throwing money at the animal.
- The zoo’s staff arrived too late to do anything about it. While other visitors to the zoo did alert Bronx Zoo staff to what was going on, by the time they reached the exhibit, she’d already left the scene and was unable to be located.
- Thankfully, neither the animal nor the woman was ever in any danger. The Bronx Zoo said in a statement that while the woman did climb over a barrier, she remained in a different area from the lion. “The woman did not enter the exhibit and was never in the same space as the lions which are separated from zoo visitors by a wide moat,” the zoo said. “The incident lasted only a couple of minutes and the woman was gone when staff arrived on scene. We have an NYPD substation in the park and are working closely with them to resolve this situation with this individual. The Bronx Zoo has a zero-tolerance policy in matters such as this and will aggressively seek prosecution against this individual and anyone who violates park safety rules.”
- This might be the same woman from 2019. One of the witnesses believes that, while the woman hasn’t been identified, they believe she’s Myah Autry, the woman who pulled the same stunt back in 2019. At the time, Autry, 34, was charged with two counts of criminal trespassing. She said at the time: “I fear nobody. No animal, no human, no one. So no, I wasn’t fearing of the lion because the lion loved me. That’s why he came to me and I let the lion know: Lion, I love you.” She failed to appear at a court appearance and was arrested in October 2020 and transferred to Coney Island Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
