Target Employee Explains Why He Quit After 3 Weeks For Being Told To ‘Work Faster’

A former Target employee admits he quit his job at the popular store after he was told to “work faster” or risk being fired. TikToker @earthlingxobro ranted against the company’s poor practices in a video, blasting its approach to managing workers and its impossible standards.

1. He claims his boss threatened to fire him. In the clip, the former employee said after three weeks of working at Target, he showed up to his shift in uniform and ready to work, only to be pulled into the office. “Before I even got started on any work today, when I got in there, I got pulled into the office almost immediately and was told that if I didn’t speed it up and start working ‘faster’ that I was going to be let go, that they were going to fire me,” he said.
2. His performance shouldn’t have been an issue. According to the former employee, he always showed up for his shift on time and did everything that was asked of him. That didn’t seem to be enough for Target. “Who are you to expect them to be this well-oiled, perfect machine, especially after three weeks when you didn’t even train this person because they didn’t train me,” he blasted his former manager. “These companies don’t have this leverage anymore and it’s so hilarious to me that they still think they do, you know?”
3. He makes a good point about post-COVID society. The pandemic changed a lot for many people in many ways. One of the most notable differences these days is that workers aren’t willing to be treated like crap. Life’s too short and too precious. “This is post-pandemic. Everybody’s short-staffed, and it’s for reasons like this. We’re not gonna put up with bulls**t. We’re not scared of you anymore,” he pointed out.
4. Viewers were pretty divided. After the ex-employee claimed that Target’s wages are “unliveable,” people took to the comments to refute that, as well as to call @earthlingxobro out for what some believed is a sense of entitlement. “You were employed for 3 weeks and think it’s admirable that you didn’t call out?!?!” one person wrote. Another added: “Target workers make good money and have a great employee discount! Also, every boss tells you what to do, lol.”
5. Many people supported his decision, however. While many didn’t understand why he quit a perfectly good job, others were on his side. “I was a grocery store manager. I never expected speed until after about 45 days. do the job right and the speed will come. the owners [couldn’t] believe we couldn’t find people after they raised their minimum wage to 10 dollars an hour. this is how out of touch people are,” one commenter wrote. Another supporter added: “I understand I worked for Walmart for one week I was fired though they did not train me And they had me working in three different departments.”
