Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa were BFF for a while. In fact, they were so close that Raisa donated one of her kidneys to Gomez when she needed it. If that doesn’t cement a friendship, it’s hard to imagine what does. However, late last year, the two seem to have had a public fallout. It all started when Gomez gave an interview in which she claimed Taylor Swift was her only friend in Hollywood. Ouch! She got a lot of backlash for that, and her response was a bit snotty/not great. Nevertheless, Selena Gomez has since said she’s forever “in debt” to Francia Raisa for giving her a literal organ.
In the Apple TV+ series “Dear…” Gomez opens up about being diagnosed with lupus and the health issues she faced as a result. She wasn’t doing well, so Raisa’s willingness to give her a kidney was extremely commendable. Gomez understood that at the time. After the successful transplant in 2017, they got matching tattoos. Gomez even thanked Raisa during her acceptance speech for the 2017 Billboard Woman of the Year award.

Now, six years later, Gomez has again discussed how grateful she is to Raisa for essentially saving her life.
“I will never ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia. The idea of someone not even second-guessing to be a donor was unbelievably overwhelming,” she says in a clip from “Dear.”
She also shared the moment Raisa told her she was willing to be a donor.
“It was one of those moments where I felt watched over,” Gomez recalled. “I know I was so, so, so lucky. I understand that that doesn’t happen for a lot of people and I know the outcome of some of those situations and how serious they are, so I do not take it lightly that it’s happened to me that way.”
Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa may no longer be friends, but it’s clear they’ll be connected for the rest of their lives.
